CBD Questions and Answers
CBD, short for Cannabidiol, is an exciting natural compound that is found in hemp oil. This tiny molecule is making an enormous breakthrough for people all around the globe and ushering in a new age of holistic medicine. Found in hemp or cannabis it is extracted with several different methods and consumed.
Hemp oil comes from the leaves, stalks, and flowers (whole plant) of both marijuana and hemp plants. Hemp oil is extracted from the hemp plant using several extraction processes. The most common methods use solvents such as CO2 and Ethanol. Some of Cannagaea’s products use an Ethanol based extraction, but most of our products are formulated with hemp oil derived using a proprietary extraction process that uses no solvents or chemicals. This gentler, more comprehensive extraction process results in a full spectrum hemp oil rich in cannabinoids and terpenes.
While research is ongoing (including a 2015 report from Israel), there is a growing body of evidence that points to the many health and nutritional benefits of full spectrum hemp oil. The human body (and all mammals) has what is called the endocannabinoid system (ECS), which is a biological system of neurotransmitters that bind to cannabinoid receptors, and cannabinoid receptor proteins expressed throughout the central nervous system (including the brain) and peripheral nervous system. The ECS is involved in regulating a variety of physiological and cognitive processes including fertility, appetite, pain-sensation, mood and memory. The hemp plant has a phytocannabinoid system (plant based), research, and an ever-increasing amount of anecdotal evidence indicates that plant cannabinoids have ways of interacting with and modifying the activity of the endocannabinoid system.
The most effective way to take CBD oil is to apply it underneath the tongue. Beneath the tongue is a high concentration of blood vessels that help quickly deliver CBD to your bloodstream. You may also take CBD oil by simply swallowing it or mixing into your favorite drink. Although not as effective, this method may help alleviate any unpleasant tastes.
We have found 20 milligrams of CBD to be an appropriate starting dosage. In a bottle of 600mg CBD oil, this would be equivalent to one milliliter or one full dropper. In a bottle of 1200mg CBD oil, this would be equivalent to half a milliliter, or half a dropper. It is important to understand that CBD dosage can vary depending on the patient’s needs.
Cannagaea utilizes two different extraction processes to create our CBD products. Our CBD oil is produced by an ethanol-based extraction process, while our CBD Plus oil, CBD soft gels, and CBD topicals are crafted via our proprietary extraction process. This hemp oil extraction process results in a full spectrum CBD oil that is rich in terpenes and cannabinoids.
Cannagaea only uses hemp produced by farmers in Colorado. Cannagaea’s growers are some of our closest friends, and share our commitment to quality and consistency.
Our CBD products are third party tested by industry trusted laboratories. We test for cannabinoid and terpene concentrations, pesticides, herbicides, microbiological contaminants, pathogenic bacterial contaminants, residual solvents and heavy metals. This ensures that our CBD products meet the high standards of safety and quality that we hold ourselves to.
While our products are not USDA certified, we are proud to say that we do not grow our hemp with pesticides, fungicides, herbicides, synthetic fertilizers or any hazardous chemicals. Key to verifying this is 3rd party test results, otherwise known as a Certificate of Analysis (COA). Every batch of product needs to be tested to ensure safety, purity, potency and consistency. In addition to the toxins mentioned above, reputable CBD products should also be tested for cannabinoid and terpene profiles, heavy metals, residual solvents, and have a full microbial screening.
Cannabinoids and terpenes are the primary components of the hemp plant that provide therapeutic value. There are over 100 of each in a typical hemp strain. Cannabidiol (CBD) is just one of the most prominent Cannabinoids. Depending on the extraction method, you can get more or less of these components. Full spectrum oil contains THC in trace amounts (typically less than the federal government legal limit of .3%). Broad spectrum oil does not contain THC. Extraction methods that remove all the THC typically removes more of the other cannabinoids and terpenes. This can potentially reduce the hamp oil’s effectiveness (see “What is the Entourage Effect?”).
A research report from Israel published in 2015 concluded that the more complete the original spectrum of hemp cannabinoids and terpenes is, the more effective it is. This phenomenon is called The Entourage Effect, which basically says, Mother Nature knew what she was doing when she included these substances in the hemp plant.
Cannabidiol can be isolated to the single molecule through additional extraction beyond methods that produce full or broad spectrum oil. This additional extraction results in a white, crystalline CBD powder called an isolate. All other cannabinoids and terpenes are stripped away leaving approximately 99% cannabidiol (CBD). This CBD powder can be added to a variety of carriers (such as MTC oil) for human consumption.
You do not need a Medical Marijuana Card to purchase Cannagaea’s CBD products. The only requirement for purchase is that you be over the age of 18.
You do not need to be a Colorado resident to purchase CBD. We are currently shipping to states that permit CBD products derived from industrial hemp.
From Seed to Consumer
We control the entire manufacturing process from Plant Selection to Consumer. We work with our growers to select only the best quality, 100% Colorado grown industrial hemp for our products. After the formulations have been completed, we use third party testing which includes cannabinoid and terpene profiles, heavy metals, pesticides, herbicides, residual solvents and microbial screening. Each products purity, safety, cannabinoid and terpene potency are supported by third party certificates of analysis (COA), which are accessible here and next to each product on the shopping menu. Once the quality is verified, we bottle and package in our own facilities. By controlling the entire process, Cannagaea can ensure our customers are receiving a product that meets our high standards.
